- KIT
o Birth or after birth - A tiny kit with his kitten blue eyes tightly closed against the the dangerous world. His small body pressed against his mother's warm belly. Around him, his siblings shifted and let out the tiniest squeaks that he could not hear in his young state. Muted sounds seemed to resonate but he was to young to understand. All he smelled was a alluring scent of milk, and the warm love he felt for the mother he had. The soft furred kitten clambered against the cooler ground to shove blindly into his mother's stomach. Even though the movement was insignificant on a normal scale, he was exhausted and he lapsed into a calm slumber. o Playing in nursery -Mistkit crouched warily next to her mother. Her soft gray fur mingled with her mothers brown pelt. She looked over as her siblings tumbled together. The kitten turned her head upward for support, and permission to join in the fun. Her mother nodded and smiled warmly, giving her a little nudge toward the others. Mistkit stumbled to her paws, and trotted over to them. They gave her one look and invited her over to play. They romped around louder, playing leader and warrior. Only once did she remove herself from the games. But after many rounds they were playing and squealing. o Anything Else you want -Snakekit gave a tiny mewl to himself as he sat at the entrance of the nursery. His amber eyes gazed longingly across the clearing toward the apprentice's den. A surge of excitement passed through his small body and his little claws kneaded the ground. He just couldn't wait until he was an apprentice. His off centered ears flicked when he heard his mother's call. He stood slowly, savoring a look at the den. Then, the tabby kit tore his gaze from it and obediently returned to his mother.
- APPRENTICE
o Ceremony -Fernkit surged with the excitement of all his littermates. Beside him sat his quiet sister, Lillykit, and on his other side, his on his other was his thoughtful brother, Barkkit. He was the only of the three to show such eagerness for this day. The other two were always so patient and obedient. But also, they were as boring as watching the grass grow. He had caused enough mischief to drive his mother bonkers, and he glowed with pride that he had. He looked up at the foreboding rock above him. It stood proud like a mountain, but was able to fit inside the camp. He could only see the side of his broad leader, but he could here the words he was meowing. "It has come to the day where these kits, will be welcomed as apprentice. Though some, have caused trouble while in the nursery," Fernkit could see a glint in his leader's wise blue eyes. "I believe it is time they be made apprentices." Fernkit waited without patience as he went through his other two siblings who went up there, touched noses with their new mentors, went into the crowd. Yadda, yadda, yadda. The dusky gray kit wanted it to be his turn. And finally it was his turn! "Fernkit please step forward." And so he did with great gusto, his head raised high. "Fernkit until you have earned your warrior name you shall be known as Fernpaw!" he yowled, Fernpaw nearly exploded with pride. "And Thrushfeather shall be your mentor, I hope she will pass down her serenity and thoughtfulness into this apprentice!" When the white and brown she-cat came up to him, he nearly recoiled and hissed. But he touched his nose against her, she was the most obedient cat to ever touch clan soil. Maybe this apprentice thing, wouldn't be so great. o Territory -Lilacpaw loyally trotted by her powerful mentor's side, Leapingflame. Her blue eyes showed disinterest, but she continued to go on as they went by the many different land marks of Riverclan. They had seen the river, and gone to marshes. It was barely mid day and her paws already ached. She didn't get why it mattered so much, from all the stories she'd heard from the elders she should now the territory like the back of her paw. Alas, they were still doing this besides hunting or fighting. Her soft blue-gray pelt was ruffled, and disorderly, and she realized that she would have to groom for moons to return it to it's proper shape. Even though her inner thoughts plagued her they continued to move on throughout the territory. o Hunting Petalpaw slunk carefully through a thick patch of heather. Her thick gray pelt did not pair up with his counterparts in Moonclan. They all had sleek coats and long legs. She had wholly fur and fairly short legs for a moor cat. She carried after her grand father in her clan traits. Sometimes she laughed when she trained with her friends. They were all much leaner then her. The she-cat scented the air, the taste of rabbit hung on her tongue. She could nearly taste the warm flesh between her teeth. Her black eyes narrowed. A rabbit not far off nibbled senselessly with care or worry. It was nearly 3 foxlengths away. Anyother Moonclan cat would easily began a chase at that distance and come out victorious. Petalpaw was much slower...but she was smarter. The apprentice shrugged off the doubts and focused her attention on the dusky rabbit. She remembered looking in a puddle one rainy morning. She fumed when she compared herself with a wide eyed rabbit. Her claws made annoyed marks on the ground, as her thoughts wandered constantly. Petalpaw skittered into the cover of another patch of thick grass. The green blades did little to hide her dark gray pelt. All there was but open ground before the rabbit. Her shoulders tensed as she slowly crept forward on her small paws. Her thoughts were pinned on the rabbit before her, slowly the space began to close between them. Everytime the creature moved she froze in mid step. Finally, it was a small Foxlength between them. A slow, warm hiss came from between her teeth. The fur on her tail bristled and she lunged forward fiercely. The rabbit started and began to run in a zigzags. But Petalpaw had the head start, she raced with the skill only a Moonclan cat would have. Her claws dug into the thick grass and soon she lashed forward with her teeth bared. Petalpaw's claws met the soft flesh. Her teeth were quick to follow, the skin was as easy to pierce as a moth's wing. The rabbit let out a scream of panic and pain but the apprentice quickly snapped it off with an angry growl. o Fighting Flamewish let out a snarl, his teeth were clenched in fury. His orange fur bristled, he looked twice his normal size. The sarcasm of the rogues had driven him to an anger he hadn't reached before. "GET OUT OF OUR TERRITORY!" He bellowed. Sari's copper eyes glittered evilly. "Looks like this, clan kitten has blown a fuse!" She laughed cruelly, "What do you think, Char?" The red tom cat doubled over in a fit of laughter, "I think hes gone crazy! Look at the stupid look in his eyes!" Char taunted with a passion. "No, no! They were that stupid before be got mad!" The three rogues all laughed madly, there tails lashing with amusement. "Yeah, and your ugly to!" Turkey put it was a broad grin on his young face. His white speckled fur puffed up as he joined his older comrades in the taunting. Sari and Char exchanged disgruntled looks as they batted the young tom. "Let us handle the jokes, my dear." Sari purred mischievously, and gave her golden fur a quick lick, as Turkey nodded quickly. "I think we'll just take this prey and be off." "Oh, no you don't!" Nightsoul challenged, her yellow eyes furious. "Moonclan! Attack!" The black and white she-cat was first to advance the charge of the three. She immediately took down Sari in a fit of snarling and claws. Petalpaw was a little more weary to join in the fight, but as Flamewish bravely tackled Char who was a head taller then him. The apprentice lurched forward to slash at Turkey's ears. The white speckled tom clearly didn't think it would escalate into a fight and he yelped in fright. The gray she-cat jumped over him to cut off his escape path. "Coward!" She spat, and gave him a stinging blow across the face. Her back arched, as she waited for any kind of rebound. Something had risen in Turkey as blood dribbled lazily down his face from the shallow slash. He lunged at the smaller she-cat with his claws unsheathed. He saw her dodge to the side but he twisted in mid air and clipped her shoulder with a weak blow. Petalpaw winced slightly, but she leaped at him. He may have been bigger then her, but her momentum bowled him over. Her claws dug into his shoulder as she struggled to keep him down. She nipped at his face, and she remembered the throat as a weak point in any warriors defense. Her teeth worked their way onto his throat and she held on. Turkey screeched and threw her off with a burst of energy. He charged at her, he feinted right and went at her left flank. His teeth sank into her shoulder and he shoved against her with a mighty surge of power. The gray Moonclan she-cat shook him off, she felt hot blood drool down her leg. It made her feel sickly, but she fought on with a vigor. She slashed her claws across his lean chest, trails of blood were in the wake of her claws. Turkey stumbled back with a dazed look on his face. His cowardly green eyes glanced at the wound and he turned and ran from the battle. Petalpaw puffed up with pride, and she saw the warriors batting the rogues off. Her brow creased as she saw Flamewish limping badly, his orange fur on his back leg was matted with blood. She trotted over with few wounds to boast. She wondered briefly of her clan mates condition before filling with a hot pride. o Assessment Morningpaw slid through the lengthy grass of a forest clearing. She could feel the eyes of her leader and mentor watching her with the same steely intensity. Today was her assessment. All of her training was being pounded into a single morning in the forest. One slip up could be another moon in the apprentice's den. Her flat-ish nose twitched at a scent so strong she could taste it on her tongue. She inhaled silently. The heavy smell of a shrew hung in her nostrils, until she exhaled with gusto. Her gray eyes narrowed to slits in concentration. Soon she would have her moment of sound, but the moment was not now. Mutely, she glided forward with fluent grace for such a large she-cat. Her black tail tip caressed, gently swaying, dew covered grass. She was the hunter. The Serpentclan apprentice's spotted flank was dampened by the time she took leave from the wet blades of grass. She cocked her head upward and scented it with her jaw slightly ajar. Still, the scent of shrew was strong in her throat. The she-cat swung around and lightly trotted into the undergrowth of the wood. Her head motioned back and fourth through the thick, humid air. There was dry smells from the scarce pine trees that succeeded in living among maples and oaks. Also, the damp under leaves supplied a more confusing environment to catch the prey. Suddenly, she froze. Her gray eyes glinted ominously and her ears pricked forward with interest. Once more she had detected the aroma of the elusive rodent. Among the confines of a small patch of briers that she could easily penetrate with a single paw swipe. The hunt was on. Blood began to pulse in Morningpaw's ears. This was her element, what she was born to do. With measured skill her paws worked the debris laden ground. She did not even have a single twig twitch as she swept by it all. Morningpaw cut back, and her speed diminished as quickly as it had come. And then she slowed to not moving at all. Her entire body was rigid and stiff like a boulder. The shrew, was still unaware of any feline presence. It was nearly time. The roar of blood in her ears was nearly deafening. Her heart thumped against her chest with such force she thought she would explode. A growl bubbled from the back of her throat. The fur along her spine bristled. The apprentice's claws unsheathed and sheathed again. And her entire body tensed, her muscles coiled like tightened springs. Then, she lurched forward. Her paws were outstretched in front of her in an almost triumphant gesture. The briars broke before her claws and they landed on the dusky gray animal. The impact of her weight killed it instantly. Her eyes closed briefly, sending prayers to her ancestors. Morningpaw lifted the kill proudly before burying it in a pile of leaves and soil. On the same hunting trip, Morningpaw captured one robin and two more mice. Even through the pressure of being watched by her leader and mentor her skills and tactics had shown through beautifully. Her leader, Badgerstar, did not speak with her after the assessment. The small cat simply slunk off into his den again, maybe to contemplate, maybe to be alone. But afterword her once sour faced mentor, Ratwhisker, approached with eyes glowing with pride. "Great job, Morningpaw!" The gray mottled tom meowed warmly, giving his apprentice an affectionate lick on the nose. "I've never seen you hunt better!" The she-cat thrust her chest out in gratification. Her gray eyes seemed more blue as they radiated honor of her mentor's compliment. She sat straighter and kept her chin up. "I did my best, Ratwhisker!" Ratwhisker stood, his long whisker's twitched in amuesment. He licked her ear as he passed her. "I'm positive you'll be sitting vigil tonight." He purred before he pounced into the camp with his tail in the air. The black spotted she-cat pranced into the camp with a skip in her step. She saw warriors glance at her strangely but she took no notice of it. Redeeming happiness surged through every limb in her body. From the tip of her tail to the end of her whiskers. Her eyes locked on the Warrior's den. And she could barely wait.
