Froglegs pushed his way through the undergrowth of the den and looked into the cold sunlight. It glittered on the morning dew, and he stifled a yawn. He couldn't tarry to look at the scenery and he swiftly bounded through the entrance into the pine forest.
As the dark brown tabby padded in near silence through the undergrowth he couldn't help seizing the chance to really appreciate the forest's morning beauty. The sun seemed to gild the forest in a shade of glittering gold. Even the simple dew shimmered with the brightness of the new day, and he basked in the warmth that was just barely seeping through his fur.
With no more rush, he closed his green eyes and breathed in. But the peaceful moment was taken as the alluring scent of a robin came to his nose. The deputy opened his eyes, he could just hear the twitter of the song bird, and he carefully got to his paws. Frogleg's ears swiveled to catch the sound, and he was headed south-bound away from his camp.
His paws brushed the damp grass but he continued on until the smell of the bird was swimming about his nose. He crouched low, and tried to stay hidden among a sparse bush. The tom narrowed his eyes, and spied a robin with a bright crimson breast in a clearing only two fox lengths away.
Froglegs hid a smile, this bird was enjoying the morning as well. The dark cat tensed and he gritted his teeth in anticipation. And this would be the last morning this bird would see.
He stalked in short burst before freezing solid, and he came forward again. At once, the Robin lifted her narrow head and seemed to stiffen a moment before flight. Froglegs took a strong leap through the air and he could feel the time toiling by as the Robin's wings began to unfurl. Even as it seemed like ages, it took seconds and the tom was on the bird. He killed it before it let out a screech. Froglegs looked upon his prey, and scent a prayer to starclan, then swiftly took the prey to camp.
