A distant roar rang clearly through the empty air. The loud sound reminded him that he had been in danger. He couldn't recall it clearly, but he felt as if he had been striped off his soul. But he could clearly remember the fire that had taken his body into its fiery talons.
His eyes blinked open wearily, they stung as bright light flooded all of his senses. He tried to remember his name, everything in his memory was so hazy and unclear. As his vision cleared he suddenly had a flashback of his life that he had all but forgotten.
He had been chased. Run down by hunters with weapons that made loud noises and killed his species. A shiver raced down his spine to the tip of his short tail. He jerked to his paws without looking, his name was Ruhan. He could at least remember that about himself, that didn't haunt him with horrors.
Ruhan's vision cleared further and so had his mind. He became weary of his unknown surroundings and the light that still practically blinded him. He shook his head and his sight opened into a new place he had never seen before.
It was an odd sight. All different species of creatures were in single file in one great line. He could see dogs and cats, birds, small animals he had seen with the hunters in their dens. Also, great wild animals like Lions, tigers, and bears! Then he saw his own cult of animals... the nervous footed Cheetah.
He averted his amber gaze from the twitching cats and tested his long limbs. Surprisingly, nothing was injured or even aching. A smile crept onto his face and he focused on how he had gotten here.
Ruhan got recall himself being chained to a hard post, captured by those hunters that could take down a lion if they wanted to. He did not remember much of their odd speak but he caught some words that were whispered on the Savannah.
The cheetah remembered the words fear, plague, and spirits. A dangerous mix from what he could understand. A sinking feeling of dread sank onto him when he remembered what they had done to him while he had been chained.
They had poked and prodded Ruhan like he was meat about to be cooked and eaten. They had taken his long graceful tail first. The pain had been excruciating and he had cried for his mother for the first time in many rain seasons. They fed him foul tasting plants, and stagnant water but somehow he had survived into the next torture.
His ear had been sliced off for a reason he could not fathom. His entire life the hunters had kept away from him and now suddenly they had turned so hostile. Then, the hunters got bolder and tore a crescent shaped stripe of flesh from around his eye.
Ruhan remembered finally snapping at his captors and making a run for it. He had been faster when he had been free, but now he had been weak and without a tail. He had stumbled an fallen through the long grasses, until a blast from the hunter's weapons and a crack as something struck his skull.
He eyes burst open, and he stood stiff, gasping. He nervously glanced around, but he didn't think anyone had noticed his outburst. Ruhan stood and swung around and went face to face with a giggling hyena.
"Ah!" Ruhan exclaimed in surprise and tumbled backwards as he jumped. "Why'd you do that, you stupid dog!" he snarled to grasp the last strands of his dignity.
The spotted hyena laughed and laughed, not caring what the cheetah said for did. "You seem to be confused!" she howled in laughter. "I bet you don't know where you are." She winked a beady black eye, still smiling.
Ruhan stood and shook dust from his golden pelt. He searched the practically barren landscape. He just realized that everything was rather plain after you got over the fact that there was great animals but sitting in a calm line. It was miles of dusty plain, and a sky of solid blue.
-would continue, but is tired-
