Ratwhisker paused at the crest of the hill, stifling a yawn of boredom as he was forced to watch his pety apprentice play with herself. He tried to keep away from the activity with a grimace of his face.
Morningpaw perked up as she pounced on a grasshopper. The spotted can squealed and raced after he bowling head first into her mentor. She leaped back immediately, crying out apologies to the grumpy Ratwhisker.
Ratwhisker hissed angerily, and righted himself. "Go play in the thunderpath!" he growled, shaking his ruffled fur, "Or at least someone else to bother!" He hissed and slid down the sandy hill and toward the river.
The apprentice deflated but sullenly padded away.
The deputy of Serpentclan lapped at the river's cool water and looked around unimpressed. What did they find in this river that was so pretty... then his gaze fell upon a cat he though wad descended from starclan. A pelt of gold, with ebony spots covering her sleek body. A slight curl was in her short tail, and her sparkling amber eyes were half closed as she basked on a stone.
"Whoa..." Ratwhisker breathed, his mouth hanging open. He gulped loudly and could hardly contain his thumping heart.
He stumbled backwards, "Should...I talk to her? Or walk away? I can't just ignore such radiant beauty.." he thought in his head, he decided to approach
In the bushes, he quickly groomed his whiskers and he puffed out his fur to put the show of more muscles on his skinny form. He stood cleared his throat, closed his eyes and walked out toward the river's edge.
He opened his bright amber eyes a moment to soon, "Hey there-" he was cut off as suddenly there was no land under his paws and he splashed into the river.
Ratwhisker scrabbled to hold onto his side of the bank, he heard laughing from the she-cat and he clambered onto land, shaking. He scowled, "Oh whats the use! I can't even walk straight!! I'm a failure!" he started to walk off.
The gold and black she-cat leaped from stone to stone to the other side and stopped him. "Hey! Theres nothing wrong with falling in," amusement was in her tone, "I'm Seedpelt!"
"Uh... I'm Ratwhisker." he smiled sheepishly, with a wave of his sodden tail.
Seedpelt recoiled, "Oh! Your Serpentclan's deputy! I've heard mean things about you..." she trailed off looking at him, as his smile disappeared and he tried to walk off again, "Calm down, they're probably all rumors."
"They might not be..." the deputy grumbled.
"Nah! They're all thistles and cobwebs!" she scoffed, playfully batting his shoulder.
Ratwhisker laughed warily, and flicked his ears. "Yeah, maybe so." he purred.
"Seeeedpelt! Where are yooooouuuu!" came a loud voice from the willow trees.
"Foxdung!" Seedpelt swore, her tail lashing. "My mother can't leave me alone, can she?" She shook her head angrily, "Well I have to go Ratwhisker, I'd love to see you around." she stole a lick over his ear and quickly jumped back onto her side.
Ratwhisker watched her go, and he couldn't believe the feeling inside of him. He cocked his head to the side. Was that...love? He mulled it over slowly as he ambled away...
