Sun that shines on snow slowly padded from her warm save into the feeble sunlight of Newleaf. It was still chilly on the gray mountain but the lovely sun warmed her mud plastered fur. A soft purr escaped her lips and her paws touched the cold stone and she wandered out of the cave.
The ginger and white she-cat sighed and drank deeply from the icy water. The cool water brought life to her drowsy mind. A pleasant breeze ruffled her fur as her head rose. She slithered onto a stone and basked in the sunlight.
Sun began licking the mud from her. It was common for mountain cats to have muddy fur but she enjoyed rasping her tongue across her sleek pelt. A soft twitter of birds was a pleasant song to her ears and even the roar of the waterfall was peaceful.
The gritty taste of mud hung in her mouth as inch by incy her fur began to gleam in the light. But her white patches her dimmed gray by the mud and weren't as radiant as her orange fur. Her green eyes closed and she patiently waited for an activity.
A faint rumbling came from her stomach and started in surprise. She hadn't even noticed her own hunger, the to-be stood and stretched, her tail waving actively. Sun bounded down from the warm stone and plodded across the cold shaded ground of the cave to pick up a plump mouse. Few had risen yet, so she had none to share with.
Sun shrugged and trotted out of the cool cave once more. She squinted at the sunlight and laid down in a patch of tough grass and began to feast on the delicious morsel. Then, there was a sound. Barely a flutter of a leaf, but it had her whip her head upward in curiosity.
She licked her whiskers and scrutinized her surroundings. Nothing else but the twitter of birds and the bellow of the falls could be heard. Only a brush of the wind... Sun thought to herself.
The to-be nibbled halfheartedly on her partly eaten mouse. Her ears swiveled and again she heard another sound. This time a loud crack of a twig foolishly stepped on. She knew something was there and she wouldn't be fooled. Sun rose to her paws slowly, pretending to not have heard.
Her claws tore into the tough grass and frosty soil as a growl rose in her throat. "Come on out! I know your there!" She called to the seemingly empty air.
Sun was facing the wrong direction and behind her the sparse foliage rustled. She whipped around to see a large male cat, with thick orange fur, black stripes, and a strikingly white belly. The to-be nearly toppled over in surprise. This beast of a cat looked like he could eat her and still be hungry! He looked scarred and worn.
"I'm sorry to have disturbed you." The big cat meowed in a gruff voice, he flicked his black torn ear. "I've been traveling, I can't stand my family. But there seems to be little food around here. I'm Tiger."
Sun gawked at him, "I-I'm Sun T-that Shines on S-snow. B-but you can c-call me Sun for short." She stuttered, "And You can have my mouse, if you want! And I'll get you another!" The to-be added quickly.
"Wonderful!" Tiger purred, and he settled himself to devour the mouse in famished gulps. "I thank your for your kindness, few would give up there food for me."
"Oh, its no trouble at all!" The orange and white she-cat scurried back into the cave and skidded toward the foodpile. She picked up a hawk and started dragging it before she stopped short.
"Sun?" A deep soothing voice asked, "Whatever are you doing with such a large hawk, there is no way you could eat such a thing."
Sun slowly looked up. Dragon That Soars Overhead. The most gentle and kind cat there was, but the largest and with fur darker then night and eyes like yellow moons. "I'm extra hungry today." She mumbled, through the birds feathers
"Then you wouldn't mind sharing? I haven't eaten today." Dragon asked, licking his long whiskers.
"Oh! I'm already sharing with... my brother!" Sun lied, suddenly taking interest in her paws.
"Oh! But, I just saw your brother snoring away in the To-be den." The big cat squinted at her, his callused pads scoffing the stone floor.
The she-cat faltered, struggling to find a lie that would get her out of here. "I just woke him up! Well, see ya Dragon!" She hurriedly grabbed the hawk and struggled to drag it out of the cave.
"Odd..." the black cat mused, but he didn't want to intrude of her business and he wandered off in a different direction.
"Whew! That was close!" Sun whispered through her teeth as the limp hawk bonked against damp stones as she left the cave. The to-be heaved the hawk up and jumped onto the stony mountain ground and took it to Tiger.
"Here you are. Hawk! Not exactly mouse but twice as good." She looked at him and noticed he had left nothing of the mouse and nervously backed up as he licked his black claws.
"Thank you!" The massive cat grunted and drew the hawk closer to him and ripped into the lean flesh. "Your right, it does taste better than mouse." They lapsed into silence as he ate.
Sun looked around awkwardly, "So... where did you come from before?" Sun asked cautiously.
"The Forest." Tiger answered simply through a mouthful of meat.
The to-be's eyes brightened in amazement. "Whoa! The forest! That's amazing, I think my father's been there before but hes a loner so hes been lots of places." She meowed exuberantly.
Tiger paused from his gorging, and looked up with his narrow green eyes. "A loner, eh? I'm more a rogue type, but whats his name I might've met him."
"Wind Chaser." She meowed immediately, puffing out with pride.
"Hmm, never heard of him. But since your a mountain cat he probably lived round here. I lived quite a distance off." The massive cat commented and stood licking feathers from his face. "I'd probably get going, thanks for the food!"
The black striped cat began leaping down the face of a hill and soon vanished from sight his black tipped tail waving.
Sun paused to reflect of who she had met. He had probably seen more then she ever would. A purr rose in her, and she was glad to have a comfortable life. With a pleased of look on her face she returned to the cave.
