Rosepaw padded in with a smile on her face she had felt so proud to be watching the little kit. She felt like a mother, but she knew that apprentices weren't to have kits until they were fully trained. Though... she couldn't tare her eyes from Stingkit. She licked his head as he slept by her side.
Why did something so small, make her feel so good? The calico rested her head on her paws as she watched him sleep. His kitten soft fur ruffled in the breeze. The apprentice curled protectively around him.
A purr rose in her throat as she felt his little heart beating, thump...thump...thump... Its rhythm pounded in her furry ears and it reminded her to enjoy the simplest things in life. But she was worried.
What about her clan? It made her own heart beat falter in her chest in anxiety. Her mother was the leader of the clan! How could she just run out just because of a single kit. But...Rosepaw didn't want to hand him off to another queen and have her forced to ignore him for training. The feeling slashed through her rational thought. It made her angry that someone would take him from her.
The calico shifted in the thick leaf litter that was their temporary den. Slowly, she raised her head to listen to the forest sounds that invaded the peace. Obnoxious birds chirped and cawed while rodents shifted the dry leaves and caused a little racket of their own. Her green eyes flicked to Stingkit and with a jolt of horror she realized he wasn't even there anymore.
Rosepaw sprung to her feet and she whirled around in fear. "Stingkit!" She cried, tossing leaves out of her way in a desperate search. "Stingkit! This isn't a game!" She leaped on a root and scoped the surrounding area. She saw nothing but leaves and trees. Tears pooled in her green eyes as she slide off the root dejectedly, I'm a horrible, mother! I don't care if he really isn't mine, hes mine to me! she wailed in her mind.
"Momma...?" Came a little voice, from seemingly nowhere.
Just hearing his tiny voice, made thousands of butterflies flutter through her entire body. And that he had called her momma was something so special to her that she felt she would explode from happiness. Rosepaw turned her head toward him, a tearful smile spread across her face. "Great Starclan..." she whispered, "Stingkit!" She ran to him and covered his face in warm licks.
"Momma?" Stingkit asked looking at her through the licks, "Why are you crying?" He rubbed against her chest.
The Thunderclan cat smiled again, "I just thought I'd lost you," Her soft green eyes hardened slightly, "Why did you wander off?" Rosepaw's voice was firm but gentle as she inquired.
The kit pricked his ears at her and did a quick happy circle. "I was hunting!" he squeaked and dove under a leaf to reveal his trophy. He brought back a large beetle that was clearly no longer living. Thought its glossy, hard limbs still twitched compulsively. "Its a giant!" Stingkit purred at his own success and put the beetle down.
Rosepaw purred proudly and nuzzled him affectionately. "It is quite a catch. Now go off and play but don't wander off to far or Momma won't be very happy." Her green eyes flashed with seriousness, but they softened quickly as he scurried off to enjoy himself.
Her eyes traveled as Stingkit leaped and bounded on the forest floor chasing bugs and moss, or anything that really moved. She eased her self down to lay on the cool earth. Rosepaw smiled to herself, but then her belly rumbled in a complaining tone. Her ears flicked in surprise as she realized she would have to go hunt soon.
Rosepaw shifted nervously, she didn't trust herself to go away from Stingkit for to long. Lest something got him, or she was found and brought back to Thunderclan. Thoughts whirled through her head and she shrugged them off. She would wait and maybe an idea would come to her.
Shadows raced over the horizon as the fiery sun slowly set over twolegplace. The only sounds that seemed to be heard sounded from the noisy clearing filled to the brim with noisy smelly idiotic clan cats. A swish of a lashing tail echoed twice round a rock pile outside of gam, followed by a rustling branch, which twitched and whipped until slapping back into place, revealing a muddy she-cat on the trunk. Her fur washed over with the speedy rising moon, and she stepped into the clearing, focusing on every cat separately before making her "visible" entrance.
Rosepaw's nostrils flared at a new smell, but it was more of a foul stench that hung in her nose uncomfortably. She thought for a moment to call her kit to her but she didn't think twice about the strange and foreign smell. She gave her head a clearing shake before watching Stingkit again.
With fluid movements like a bird or butterfly, the barely silver she-cat fluttered over into the center of the clearing. Her eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness, causing new sights to form in her eyes, one being the image of her sister. She wore a malicious grin as she studied her sister's eyes. They intently followed a tiny kit, whom was playing around in an open space. Her claw un-sheathed, but she made it a swift movement in sheathing them, then stalked over to her past-sister.
The she-cats ears pricked up and strained to stay erect as she saw the dirty rogue approach her. A feral snarl rose in her throat. The cat's fur was dirty, matted and blood stained patches of her. Rosepaw backed away the rogue with slow steady pawsteps. Moonlight flecked her pelt through the leaves above, but darkness was cast upon her eyes giving her a mysterious appearance that hid her muted fear for Stingkit. She hissed through her teeth calling the gray kit's name. He obediently scurried behind her leg as she watched with growing hostility.
"Hello," she mewed, ridding herself of visible emotion in the process. Her eyes turned a dull Grey without purpose or reason while she approached.
Rosepaw was not about to release her guard for an instant before she was clear as water sure Stingkit would be safe. "What do you want!?" She spat venomously at the rogue, the apprentice looked into her eyes and saw nothing. Nothing at all.
She blinked. Her eyes opened in a flash of deep blue as they focused on the kit, then dulled again. "Nothing s-" her words came to an abrupt halt, and she hissed to close the sentence normally. Sister was the word that broke off, but it wasn't true, they weren't sisters anymore.
Rosepaw's ears gave a tiny movement and her tight posture loosened slightly as she began to see no threat in the rogue. For a moment she believed she saw a flash of emotion in the cat's dark eyes. The Thunderclan apprentice warily gave Stingkit's head a gentle lick, her eyes never leaving the dirty cat. "Who are you...?" The she-cat growled.
"A passing cat.." she mewed flatly, pretending to wonder why the other she-cat wouldn't let her pass. She let her fur and tail lie, though inside thoughts of how to jump into battle, and how to kill churned in her twisted and sick mind.
Rosepaw's eyes remained slightly worried about the cat and she towered protectively over her kit. Her green eyes flashed and for a single moment she thought she heard a resemblance in the rogue's eyes or voice that reminded her of her lost sister. But the feeling swiftly wore off and she scowled again.
In a fit of curiosity of the odd cat, he broke free of Rosepaw's grasp and he tumbled into the rogue's paws. Stingkit quickly scrambled up and looked up at the dirty cat, "You need to clean behind your ears more!" He scolded in a tiny voice, though he smiled. "Bad kitty!"
Finally deciding on one, she quickly unsheathed her claws, and whipped around, teeth bared out as far as they could be. She swiped her claws over Stingkit, then clutched him in her razor teeth, and bit down hard on the neck where she held him. It was not hard enough to kill him, but to draw blood from the sides surrounding his adam's apple thingy
Rosepaw shrieked in horror, her back arched at an unbelievable angel. Her green eyes bulged and she let out a wail, "Put him down!" She cried, "Put him down!" Her voice was higher then usually, terror burned through every fiber in her body.
"Mommy!" Stingkit shrieked in a blood chilling voice, tears of fear rolled down his face rapidly. His happy blue eyes were soon as big as moons and just as bright.
She glared at Rosepaw, and grinned with the kit in her mouth. "How do you like me now, sis?" she snarled with malevolent terror reigning over her usually subtle innocent voice.
She flinched involuntarily, this was Sapphirepaw? Her sister? Sobs made her frame quiver, her face was glistened with tears of fear. "Please... Sapphirepaw," Rosepaw's voice was meek and tiny, "What did I ever do to you..." Her crying picked up pace as she saw her kits terrified face, "Please... Let him go..."
"Give me some reasons as to why." she stated viviously, spitting her words out like the sharpest thorns on a blackberry bush. Her voice was clear through the kit's rough fur, implying that she had done this many times before.
She tried to steady the quiver in her voice, "Hes just a kit, hes barely even had a chance to live!" The apprentice whispered staring her sisters dark eyes, "We're blood! Doesn't that mean anything to you? Litter mates..." Her weak voice trailed off.
"I've told Blueestar of our erased family lines, and I'll tell you too. We're both cats, and it's the only thing we have in common now. I'd switch my blood with any other cat if I could," she snarled angily, claws pulling themselves in, and quickly flashing out in excitement, She wanted to feel this kit's blood run down her throat, but she would have to wait. Her plan would be completely and utterly ruined if she killed it now. The cogs and meshes of her mind started up again, and she bit harder on the kit, trying to make it squeal.
Stingkit gave a tiny painful yowl, "Let me go!" he cried out, he writhed in agony, "Mommy! Save me from the mean cat!" His cries carried far in the desolate forest, it seemed like they were alone here with no one to turn to.
Her soft green eyes were puddles of liquid that seemed to never stop. She groveled at Sapphirepaw's feet, yowling for mercy on the kit. "Please! Oh, please! Hes so young!" Her long calico tail was bristling with horror, and the fur on her spine prickled in distress.
She stepped forward, placing her dirty paw on the tortishell's head. Her claws slid out, louching the flesh, but not long enough to penetrate it. An evil idea formed in her mined, and she suddenly bound forward over her sister, making sure to dig her claws deep into the flesh with ever step, then pulled her head back, and flung the kit as far as she could, where he slamme dinto a tree. Her eyes shone, as she turned back at Rosepaw for a short moment, then darted off, leaving her one-was sister to do whatever she may to save the kit.
Rosepaw winced in pain of her scratches but she rushed to Stingkit. He looked fine on the outside but his eyes were closed. The she-cat wailed in fear and licked him, she could see dark moist spots on his pelt from her dripping tears. She tucked him under her chin protectively whispering sweet words to him. The apprentice couldn't believe how close she was to losing the one thing that had brought true color into her life. She clung to him for dear life, mute to the surrounding world. "Oh, Stingkit..." Rosepaw whispered hoarsely, "Please be okay..."
