Ares's heavy paw pressed on the firm stone floor. His vile yellow eyes gleamed with his violent intent. Murder hung high in his mind, what sounded like a wolf like purr came from his throat.
The black wolf's unusually slim body glided forward smoothly. His long wings tucked comfortably at his sides. The stench of the den made his glossy nose wrinkle in distaste. Ares wondered how a witchwolf of such respect could remain to live like the lowly life they were.
If it hadn't been for Gold Crest's exceptional skill at protecting his minions she would've been dead long ago. Her name was Fate... Ares had known of her Resistance since he was a pup, Fate had been worshiped. But now, she knew to much and it was her end.
The wolf loped into Fate's open den. The reek of rotting plants and vile decay. Ares stumbled back in surprise, but he re focused and the soft fur in his ears vibrated at the thumping of a bloody heart.
"Don't hide from me..." He breathed through his curved fangs, "I can hear your living heart." He began salivating madly at the thought of a new kill.
"I don't hide from death like a coward, young pup." A raspy voice came from behind, Ares whirled around defensively. She was dull brown, with crippled wings that were not fit to fly any longer.
"I'm no longer young." Ares snarled, the fur at the nape of his neck prickled uncomfortably in the presence of such a spiritual wolf. The air around her inspired sharp fear that raged through his veins. "I'm not sorry to say, you will die tonight."
Fate hobbled forward, her ageless eyes stared blankly at him. He noticed with horror that there was no pupil in the eyes, only white with creeping veins that wormed across the surface. Ares suddered involuntarily, "I have seen my fate in the stars." Fate rasped.
Ares lunged at her mercilessly but was shocked by her agility with her old bones. She was a blur of muddy brown as she shot away from his paws. The ebony wolf's wings bristled and he snapped again but he was quicker. His teeth caught hold of her leg ad he dropped her to the ground.
His grip tightened and a sickening crunch came from the brittle bones. He savored the long cry of pain. Ares placed a firm paw on her shoulder and he took to shredding her ears as she screeched helplessly.
Fate wriggled out from the stronger wolf, she did not cry as blood smeared her face. Nor did she take notice to the ragged lumps she called ears. She just stared into Ares's eyes with her haunting white ones.
Ares's eyes became the picture of rage as he felt the pupil-less orbs searched his soul. "I'll BLIND YOU!" He roared with a vengance, and he shot forward. T he old wolf ducked to the side but Ares thought of that and whipped right back around. His jaws locked of her head and in his crushing grip, blood dribbling into his hot mouth.
Fate let out a choked cry, gore matted her already filthy pelt. She hung limply, "Blind me! Deafen me! Rip my throat out! I will never break down!" She challenged.
Ares bellowed wildly, and he pressed his big paws to her eyes. He scratched at them, but only thin layers of flesh came away. The black wolf changed tactics and his long canine teeth sunk into her very socket. The easily pierced jelly gave way without effort.
He was enraged that the old wolf took this so calmly. Ares drew back to shred her throat and end her miserable life. With a boom of sound his head went forward, the gruesome movement seemed to slow.
Not far off, in hope of seeking fate Jokai lazy wafted through the air. Then, suddenly the roars and bellows reached his keen ears. It came from Fate's den. He suddenly picked up speed, his fur was sleek against his body.
Jokai swooped into the den and rammed into Ares's side with bone jarring power. "No!" He howled, "You can't kill her!" The young wolf licked the elder gently.
Ares gasped for air, as the oxygen was forced from his lungs. "You fool!" He gasped, "Get out of way!" The furious wolf grabbed the young one's throat and flipped him through the air making his skull crack against the hard surface. Jokai went immediately limp. Ares sniffed him dryly. He was only unconscious and by the time he woke Ares would be gone and deed would be done.
