Ember let out a low hiss. His peircing eyes narowed at his paws, where there was still a faint trace of blood from his half sister's murder. He grinned lightly and stared straight ahead where all he saw was the same bleakness that mirrored inside of him.
The young she-cat stepped out from a tangled bush with a furrowed grimace planted on her stiff face. She murmured something too quiet for even the sharpest of cats, and clawed over to Ember. Irritant feelings hovered over her head like a dark cloud of rain steaming after someone's tails. She growled at Ember, expecting him to suddenly catch her an aviary of birds, and planted herself on the ground. "Well, brother, you got your wish, I'm hungry." she snarled, lashing her paw out at him like he was her sole enemy.
The tabby tom turned to his sister and bowed his head with a perfect facade of calmness. Without even the slightest twitch of hiz muzzle to show a grin at his lovely sister, he turned and bounded away to catch her something to eat.
She wrinkled her nose, and turned it upward at him. On any normal day, she would've jumped in front of her brother, and cought the food herself, maybe even lashed out at him if he tried to lift a finger. But today was different. Today, the young she-cat was angered at everything. Herself, her brother, even a pebble on the ground, which she pounced at, and ripped up in her mouth. It ws only a clod of dirt, but besides the point, she was lazy, irritant, and desired food more than anything else in the world.
"Where's that plump vole?!" she demanded of her brother, Ember. Her eyes narrowed, and she snarled in rage, then rolled over onto her back, completely uncomfortable with any position. She licked her stomach a few times, and twisted and turned repeatedly, until finally decided on an upside-down pose with her back to the floor, and her underside facing toward StarClan. She groaned, and rolled back upright, disgusted with herself. A strange urge to clean herself, suddenly rose in her mind, and she awkwardly lashed at her fur in a flurry of pink tongue, and saliva-coated silvery fur.
Ember lowered his body to the ground. A wood mouse, a large one for this area was scurrying around the base of a tree. Ember grinned, showing his yellow stained teeth. Leaping off his hind legs he sunk his claws into the animal's pelt. Feeling giddy at the thought that this creature's life was in his paws.
