Stingtail slid through the reeds, his yellow eyes glancing around for the right herbs to pick. He nosed around in some Horsetail and picked a few of the long stocks. He was gentle not to crush the skin of the plant but the fibers were strong and he had to tug at them vigorously. With a jerky yank he pulled out a long stem. Sighing, he continued about his task, wishing he had some warriors to carry this stuff back to camp. With a war coming to shove, there was never enough warriors.
The healer continued to chew through Horsetail until he had a good pile of it. Using an old technique he learned as an apprentice he tucked some of the horsetail under his chin and picked up the rest with his mouth. He hobbled toward a tree, and let it all drop. His business was not finished here, there were many more herbs to search for and pluck. Leaf-fall was just around the corner, things could get difficult when the first frost came. He nosed his way through some grass before he came toward some Rosemary. Its scent was delicious, and he made his mouth water slightly. He picked a few of the delicate stems and carried it toward his pile of horsetail. The flavorful herb would be excellent if some cat got scratched on the eye, and he wouldn't be surprised if one came into den with that exact problem.
"Come!" Came a quick voice, even though his voice carried it was hushed as if he was on the hunt. And then a lean looking brown and white tabby slid through the slim undergrowth. Wildvision, warrior of Mistclan, had his eyes set on the river. But he curled his lip upward as the scent of SerpentClan carried over the river. "Come on, lets get hunting down before SerpentClan decides to steal more prey." The warrior hissed, before he looked over his shoulder with crazed amber eyes. "Oh! Hello, Stingtail."
Stingtail sat down, curling his white tail over his paws for a moment. "Hello. I see your out hunting today." He wasn't surprised that the warriors were working up a storm, stocking up prey to feed battle beaten fighters haven't the battle. He peered at the group Dewberry, Moonfire, Dustpool, and Solarpaw were behind Wildvision. "Can you spare a cat? I need someone to help me carry my herbs." The healer asked, getting his paws again.
The warrior bobbed his head, and looked back to his patrol. "Solarpaw!" He barked, his tail tip twitching for side to side. "Go help Stingtail." Wildvision was ready to hunt and didn't want any more distractions. His duty was to hunt, he twitched his ear for them to follow and he padded up toward the river. He was already looking into as he sat down.
Solarpaw groaned, he was anticipating a good hunt but his hopes had been crushed at the thought of hanging around, boring old Stingtail. He glared at Wildvision silently, seething without making further noise. He dragged himself up dramatically and padded slowly towards the healer. His tail was dragged in the dust, wishing that he was back at camp, fortifying the walls. With a final lash of his tail he settled next to Stingtail without any more complaint. His ears just drooped with an annoyed expression.
Dewberry cast her son a sorry face, and gave him a light shrug before joining Wildvision by the river. He had already caught three fish and was going for the fourth one. Her green eyes searched the water for the silvery glimpses of the fish. For the skilled hunter it wasn't long before she had narrowed her field of vision to a blur of scales and muscle. Her paw scooped through the water in one fail proof stroke and caught the fish in mid-swim. It seemed to pause in the air for a moment before landing on the ground. In less then an instance, Dewberry pounced on the fish and swiftly killed it in one bite. She paused, then flicked the limp fish into the pile.
Stingtail whirled and pointed to the pile of herbs with his tail. "You take those back to camp, quickly now. I'll be over in that clearing collecting Chervil." The black cat padded toward the clearing where it was better for Chervil to grow. But he paused as he caught sight of some Marigold. Not likely to pass up picking the invaluable herbs that were fantastic for healing open wounds. The healer took a moment to pluck at the stems and petals before carrying it all toward the lushly covered clearing that looked like a meadow. Its long grasses were slightly windswept, but undamaged by the wind storm.
Solarpaw looked at the herbs with a sour expression. He crammed as many herbs as he could into his mouth, his eyes watering from the pungent scent of the herbs. With his mouth full, he was forced to breath through his nose which only worsened the torture of the Herb's sharp scent. His nose ran, and his eyes watered. He didn't think he would be about to stand it for the entire trip back to camp. His paws slapped against the ground, and he predicted that Stingtail would be very angry with him if he didn't hurry up. The apprentice picked up his pace, and finally got back to camp with his amber eyes streaming uncontrollably.
The apprentice arrive through camp, and went straight toward the Healer's den. He was almost overwhelmed by the den's strong scent. A blind cat would have found it from a different camp if they had too. Solarpaw dropped the herbs near the entrance, he retched silently at the bitter taste on his tongue but he couldn't wait long before he had to leave camp once more to find his grumpy superior. He didn't even care that other warrior stared and chuckled at him with good humor.
