Rustkit sat at the opening of the nursery. Her dark green eyes flashed with excitement as she remembered her mother's word from earlier. Meeting her father! She thought excittedly.
Owlstar crouched low in ThunderClans undergrowth. The hum of the wind sounded in his ears. He flinched as the leaves crackled slightly. Even though he worried over getting caught, he pressed on through the undergrowth. He hadn't seen his kits since they were little. A surge of excitement spread through him and he crawled into a clearing. By now the scent of ThunderClans scent was overpowering.
Rumbklekit raised his head, "I hear someone comming," he declared. His eyes shifted to his sister. "Do you think its him? "
Blackkit raised her black ears, as if she could hear. But she remained as deaf as before, She could smell a strange foreign hear by. She let out a squeak of curiosity, bobbing her head up and down.
Twistedkit grunted, "Its probably just some fishy intruder. Our father wouldn't come see a bunch of misfits like us." Resentment was thick in his voice, but there was a twinge of self- pity was forcing itself in. He didn't believe the mighty
warrior in all the stories would even care to look at his own kin when they couldn't even look after themselves.
"Shush," Rustkit chidded. She turned her attention back to the forest, longing to meet this unknown cat.
Rumblekit, bounded to the entrence. He nodded to his sister and looked forward, his ears pricked forward. He couldn't help but agree with Twistedkit. What if their father shunned them?
The big ginger cat paused and scented the air carefully. For a moment anxiety made him stop short, but siezing his courage he padded boldly into camp. He heard hisses of shock and warning. But he ignored them until he set his eyes upon a group of familiar faces. A youthful smile went on his face, "My kits!" He purred softly.
Rustkit stared up at Owlstar with green eyes that reflected his. He was huge! And she was so tiny, flattening her ears she backed away suddenly agreeing with Twistedkit. Twitching lightly she crouched and pressed her side into Blackkit's.
Rumblekit turned his head to the side so his good eye was looking at Owlstar. "Y-your huge!" He squeaked and retreated with Rustkit.
Owlstar jumped forward and unexpectedly clutched Rustkit against his chest. The kit smelled of ThunderClan and of the warm scent of milk. The big cat could feel the kitten fur brushing against him, but after a moment he released the kit and looked across their faces. A beaming grin was on his face, but he could tell they were nervous. "I haven't seen you since you were tiny balls of fluff." He exclaimed in a powerful voice. He sat in front of them. "Now, I can't remember names that well, but I think I can get this. You're Rustkit, right?" He pointed to the she-cat he had mauled, and he smirked suspecting he was correct.
The ginger female sat back. With a paw she fixed her ruffled fur and gave her father a wary glance. The temptation of turning to hide behind her siblings was large but she could feel their uncertainty as well as their curiosity. Sticking her tiny head in the air she stalked up to her father and grinned as she nodded. "Yes, I am Rustkit," she declared.
He chuckled softly, and he looked at Rumblekit who had cowered before his sheer size. The tom cat swatted the kit playfully and smiled, "You must be Rumblekit, a strong kit." Owlstar crouched low and puffed air in his face, and whirled around. And pounced in front of a gray kitten, "I wouldn't forget this face for the world! Your Eclipsekit, a mirror image of your mother!"
Rumblekit nodded, feeling his fur prickle at his embarrassment of being so easily afraid. He blinked at his father and walked around in a tight circle eying himself. "Oh," he purred and smiled at himself. "Huh?" He glanced over at Eclipsekit and thought of their mother. I Guess he does... His amber eyes flickered over at Rustkit and then too Owlstar. He inched over to Rustkit, "You like father," he whispered in her ear.
He whipped around again, tapping Rustkit on the nose, "And you look like me, when I was just a kit!" He guffawed, "You probably don't want to look like me right now!" Owlstar ambled around, and looked at the final three. Eclipsekit stood proud like he should, but Blackkit didn't seem to understand while Twistedkit sulked in the back.
He grimaced and approached Blackkit, pressing his nose softly against her nose. The big cat could be startlingly gentle, "She can't hear." He murmured under his breath, mostly to himself. His eye tried to convey his love for even a deaf cat. "You're wonderful either way."
Blackkit seemed to understand some of this, and he let out a clumsy purr. She clearly couldn't hear what he said, but she could smell the kinship on his fur and that was all she could do for that. Also, the softness ha in his eye had alerted her to something special between them and she trotted behind him like a duckling.
