Suneagle crouched low in a patch of swaying grasses. How long had it been since he had felt the sun on his face? The warmth on his pelt? It was freezing. He guessed it wasn't just the wind that blew from the north mercilessly, it was the dreary drizzle of rain that was so constant and solid it was like a blanket on the landscape. He whimpered trying with no avail to dry his scabbing face. The water had made the scabs hideous and they had begun to start peeling. Suneagle hoped that it wouldn't last much longer, from the depressing weather to his beaten face he didn't have much to look forward to in the next days. All he could wish for is the friendly face he hadn't seen for such a long time he was starting to believe she had forgotten him.
The light gray tabby rogue huddled under the shelter of a thick bush, trying to keep warm. Her unkempt fur blew backwards in the breeze, a very uncomfortable feeling. Shade snorted, she hated leaf-bare.
He frowned darkly and let out a sigh that mirrored his dark appearance. He gave his damp fur a small shake, little droplets from the relentless ran off of his RiverClan pelt. That was the one thing fish did for you, but they didn't satisfy him has much as the other cats. He was half-ThunderClan of course; he mused on the subject that he always wondered about. His parents. Where had they gone? His father, Owlstar, was so mysterious always off in some dark place were others would find horrible. He seemed drift from shadow to shadow, but what about his mother, Blueestar? She didn't have that same quality of being aloof. Suneagle hadn't seen for quite a few moons, oh, and his family! He didn't even want to get started on his family. He felt like the only normal one, but with his ravaged face he always put this thought away. The RiverClan tom let out a sigh, and raised his nose through the rain. As he separated the clean smell of rain from the rest of the scents, he was surprised to find one lovely and familiar. Was it true? Was Shadestar here? He could have jumped with joy, but he restrained himself. "Shade?" He called, his voice was hushed, and he didn't want to appear to be a mouse-brain yowling out a name of a cat he didn't know was there.
Shade's ears pricked suddenly. Did someone just call her name? She sound was very faint, but she knew she heard someone. The voice seemed so familiar...Could it be him? She poked her head out from the bush and tried scenting the air. The scent was faint, but it was definitely there. Suneagle. She inhaled and quietly, hopefully, called out the words. "Suneagle?"
He perked immediately; the rain didn't bother him anymore. He had heard her voice! His heart soared, his days had been so long and empty without her. Suneagle had a need for love, and when he got it, he responded passionately. He launched himself out of his feeble cover; the tree had had no leaves which provided practically nothing. But now he was drenched, the little parts of him that remained dry were gone but he didn't care. He could have been struggling through a river, with a waterfall up ahead for all he cared. All he wanted to do was find Shade. He splashed through a muddy puddle smearing his golden pelt turning it a dirty brown. "Shade?" He called louder, nearly jumping out of his skin. A huge grin was laid out on his face, it hurt his face but it was all he could do to keep from exploding from the excitement.
When she heard her name called again, louder, Shade grinned from ear to ear. She leaped out from the bush and called out again. "Suneagle!" The golden tom's scent was stronger now. Closer. She bounded towards his scent and the sound of his voice. Happiness seemed only a few foxlengths away.
Suneagle yowled in joy. Oh! He could see her! Oh! He had missed her so much! Her silhouette was blurry but he knew it was her. So close, so very close. He could practically taste her, her scent was strong on his tongue, her face upon his eyes, and they shone like stars in the sky. Nothing could ruin it. Not even if the world ended right now. He was just happy to see her after the long time apart. Now, all there was to do was to touch her fur again. Then it wouldn't matter, she wouldn't be just a figment of his imagination. A trick his mind played on him. The young tom took long bounds toward her, mud streaked his pelt, and he suspected his paws were numb but he couldn't care less. Grinding into the ground, he took one more massive leap and he was upon her. He let out a gleeful cry, he felt like a kit again, Suneagle buried his face into her pelt. He scent was all around him, muddling his senses, he felt his knees go weak but some how he survived the outstanding bliss as he stood their wrapped around her.
Shade let out a yowl of joy as Suneagle leaped on her, causing them both to tumble into the mud. It didn't bother her, Suneagle was back! Finally, after what seemed like years had passed, he was finally there. She felt as if she were soaring. Shade rasped her tongue over Suneagle's ear, joy flooding her emotions.
