Blueestar padded into the camp from her den within Highrock, her tail twitching from side to side in a swooshing motion. Fire lit eyes gazed calmly and controlling over the cats meandering about in her camp. Something felt like it had changed today, as if the threat of claws at her throat had been pushed away. She gave a shake of her body, trying to rid her blue-gray fur of the dust that clung to it. Her dark nose wrinkled at the dry heat of the air, and she felt irritation growing in her, as it always did when it was to warm out. Focusing her gaze on Tigerclaw, she remembered the strongly positive things that have been spoken of him to her. She nodded her head, pleased with her decision and the firm knowledge that it was the right one.
It seemed odd, to walk into this camp, with such finality and ending. But everything looked the same; everyone was staring at the fishy tom cat. He stuck out, his rugged ginger fur, unkempt as usual and his fierce demeanor and scowl made him different. He was different. Owlstar had a swagger in his walk, a lean as he stood, like he was tired. As if the weight of the world had collected on his back and he couldn't shake them odd. The ravaged tom ignored the stares, and looked at the main attraction. He could have found her anywhere. His one eye locked on and a smile lit up his face. It changed his entire look, made him appear mortal and real instead of a battle scarred myth. He closed the space between him and the great Rock, his eye full of aged love and affection for the cat up on that rock. "Want to come down to the common folk?" Owlstar asked humorously, his smile growing and turning warm like a green-leaf day.
Blueestar purred in amusement, “My dear, I have never known you to be the common folk.” Giving her body another shake she leapt down from the great Rock, in an agile movement that would soon be surprising for her growing age. She brushed by her mate, rubbing her face against his side, breathing in his River-clan scent. Somewhere towards the back of her mind she remembered that she was suppose to greet and acknowledge her clan-mates, but the sight of her beloved mate shook that common courtesy away. “The fish are still good in this Green-leaf drought?” she asked, than twitched her ear backwards momentarily before perking it up again. “I do hope Rustpaw, Twistedpaw, and Blackpaw are faring well still in your clan?” A good portion of her mind was still left, and most likely would stay, to her mothering nature. Glancing him over she bobbed her head, not waiting for his answer, “They should be if you are still as fit as always.”
He smiled, flexing his claws into the ground the muscles that never failed to stay on his ever aging body. No one could deny that he was an old cat, but an old cat with power and determination to stay alive even through the hardest times. Owlstar brushed his muzzle against her neck, despite common misgivings about ThunderClan, she was the perfect exception. Not soft, strong and commanding, a fine leader for any Clan, but he knew things were never forever. "Fish have a steely determination that beats boulders at sitting." The fond words, constant and warm off his tongue to her but matters pressed on the back of his mind, unrelenting and strong. He pushed them back, for now. "Their training progresses well, Blackpaw is very smart, despite her... trouble, she'll be a good warrior with the right leader." He sat before her obediently, and gave a little dip of his head. "Did I interrupt?"
Blueestar’s eyes shifted away nervously and guiltily. “I have not been the best leader to my clan-mates, but I have taken respect and knowledge from my place. I yearn to leave here, set my paws to other forests and my claws to new types of prey,” she gave a lazy grin and glanced to the sky, where she could see mountain tops above the clouds. Those mountains, with the always present snow reminded her deeply of Melted Ice. “I have too much of my father’s blood within me.” She dropped her gaze to the ground and lost her grin, “With the respect of my clan-mates, I can’t give them Sapphirestream to be their leader. She is less fit for it than I am.” Bringing her fire gaze back up to his dark green one, she lowered her voice, fearing his connection to these lands would keep him from her. “Would you come with me?”
Owlstar's ears perked up in surprise at her words, it was not a trivial ceremony or mention on the heat or the prey that hid in their cool burrows. He stood up straight in the masses, no one had dared get close to the RiverClan tom and they had been more surprised when he stood and addressed their leader. "I would be honored." He replayed honestly, he bowed down to her as any rough cat should do for a regal cat. His silver muzzle touched the ground and he rose again, his green eye warm with respect. The roguish cat did not respect many, he mocked and gloated to others but few he respected. He did so to his elders, though few surpassed his age, and he occasionally showed respect to the strong young. But never had this feeling wavered for Blueestar, and it had been only woven stronger with his love. But he could hear the cats around him, murmuring, whispering with indecision. Who would be the next leader? Why would she do this? Where is she going? Will she return? They hummed and roiled around him as he returned to a sitting position, watching her intently.
Blueestar nodded, containing her joy at his agreement to her leaving, she stepped forward to stand be-sides him. The warmth in his gaze filled through her bones and gave her more courage to go through with this. Straightening her posture, her head held up high as her fire amber eyes scorched across her loyal clan-mates. “I, Blueestar, leader of Thunderclan and daughter to Melted Ice and a Thunderclan queen step down from my place as your leader.” She nodded her head to her clan-mates in a goodbye to them and insurance to her-self. She locked her gaze onto Tigerclaw. “A loyal and true warrior of Thunderclan cat is needed to take over my place as leader.” Keeping a serious expression, to show her honesty in this matter, “Tigerclaw of Thunderclan,” she addressed him. “I, Blueestar, former Thunderclan leader give you my blessing to take on my place.”
Eyes wide with gaping expression , he stood awed over his leader and her mate as they spoke words, when directing voice came a strong and vocal his head craned to meet at her, his own blazing amber orbs, a lit ember. With the words she spoke he could only gulp down the crisp air that stood before him. With a bow of respect towards Bluee he then turned ready, legs a straightening posture, his chin lifted with a shining admiration of dignity. " I am honored Blueestar to take your place, and I promise my life to this clan and all my clan mates. I thank you and wish you both luck and that starclan lights your path." his head dropping once more in a final bow he let it hold moments before he came back eye to eye with his former leader.
The ginger cat looked at the brown tabby with calculating eyes, he was deciding his worth at this moment. He registered the strong set and bright eyes, the way he spoke with respect and authority. His serious face changed as he accepted the younger tom with a rolling of his broad shoulders. "You don't look that bad... for a ThunderClan tom. I'm sure you'll do fine here... As long as you don't climb into the Owltree on a full moon." He paused for dramatic effect, his eye bright with a amusement and he conked him on the side of his head, firm but in a merely friendly gesture. "Hey, don't mess it up. Blueestar did some improving on this group of soft bellied felines." He grinned, and let out a chuckle, sinking slightly into his mate's side.
Blueestar chuckled lightly and grinned, "I am glad to hear that Tigerclaw, I had hoped I wouldn't have to stay here longer and try to find a different replacement." She dipped her head, and her grinned widened as she raised her head. "Take good care of these trouble makers for me." She rubber her head against Owl's shoulder, "Shall we depart?"
The aged tom looked at the new leader and smirked, he turned to Blueestar and smiled warmly and pressed his nose to hers. "We shall." He pressed his face into her fur for a moment and slowly turned around. The stares were there, on their backs, the shocked silence surprise and worry. Time seemed to slow and their times together in this Clan began to reply. The first meeting went by too fast, and then time got away from them. Fights and memories of passes moons, he remembered them all separately, his hurt their renewal. Those night, he could never forget, alone in the great abyss of time and space, where nothing had been but each other. Then, there were the times of happiness with the kits here, bounding playing, the times of tragedy and violence. Memories stung like the betrayal of Sapphirestream and Ember, the mental agony. But there was new life once again, pure and innocent, those happy times with them. He remembered simple times of lying in the sun on rocks and looking at the moon's reflection on the water of the river. They were leaving this forest, to see new things, we would like it, he would love it. Just to be with her was a new euphoric sensation every second. Before their last steps out of the Clan he had hated, he had loved all at the same time, he looked back. All the faces were turned and staring; Owlstar smiled and nuzzled Blueestar's cheek. And together, they went into the great unknown.
