Rosepa The breeze was chilled but in her long fur protected her from its icy touch. For a moment she forgot where she was, some where in the forest away from her Thunderclan den.
Then she looked at the gray bundle of fur by her belly. Again, the apprentice faltered in the confusion of morning. Realization hit her like a heavy rock. This was her kit, but he wasn't really hers... But she was determined to keep him for herself.
The tortie found herself but pleased to be staring at his soft form. Suddenly, she could feel his head nuzzling aw's eyes fluttered open to see the cool morning air. gainst her stomach, crawling closer to the bend her body. A gentle smile lit her white face. She only wished she could do more for him. She was sure that he would still be nursing from his mother. Rosepaw's brow creased, she didn't have any milk. But she would make do.
She stretched her paws out in front of her. She didn't shift her body to disturb Stingkit. Rosepaw's belly rumbled, breaking her thoughts. Carefully, she rose to her paws shaking leaves from her pelt. The apprentice crouched low and nuzzled Stingkit awake.
Stingkit blinked drowsily, he stifled a huge yawn. "What is it, Momma?" He asked, tiredly.
"I'm going hunting, Stingkit... I'll be back very quickly. Stay hidden and don't come out." She licked him over the ear and twirled around. Rosepaw briefly glanced over her shoulder and disappeared into the undergrowth. She didn't go far before she was crouched low, with a hunter's mind set.
Blueestar drew in a deep breathe. She sighed, she needed to see Owlstar. Sapphirepaw and Ember had confronted her. She glanced up at the sky, she hadn't heard from her daughter or son for that matter. Turning her attention back to where she was going Blueestar spotted a cat in the hunting position, wait... she thought.
The tortoiseshell nostril's flared as she breathed in the forest scents. She licked her lips and she slid forward. But even as she moved a familiar scent took her by surprise. It over powered the rich smells of a near by rabbit and a jay that chirped plainly in a tree. The smell was Thunderclan's leader, her mother. Rosepaw whirled around, wide eyed. "Blueestar!" She gasped, and she froze stiff.
Blueestar blinked, she was taken back by her daughters...fear? Blueestar gave her a half-smile "Where have you been?"
Rosepaw loosened slightly, but her movements were slow and robotic. "I, I've been a-around." She stuttered, looking down at the ground. Slowly, she backed up, anxiously licking her paws roughly.
Blueestar breathed in, she caught the strong scent of her daughter but there was something else... Another cat. "Rosepaw... why do you have the scent of another cat on you?" She breathed in again. "...A kit?"
She gasped, the warm Greenleaf air striking the back of her throat. Her green eyes opened wide, they glinted in the morning sun. They glittered with secrets and shock. Rosepaw's claws dug into the ground and the air was thick with tension. "I...I..." The she-cat's eyes flicked rapidly and with out warning... She jerked into a swift run. The apprentice's breath came in quick gasps, and she didn't know if she was pursued or ran alone.
Blueestar narrowed her eyes at her fleeing daughter. She knew her daughter had a brain in her head. Sighing she sat down, she hoped she would come back home. Blueestar continued to watch Rosepaw till she couldn't see her no longer when the thought came to her, why was all of her kits running away from her. She sighed.
Blueestar sighed. She hasn't come home before why would she now? You scared her. her conscious decided to speak up. "Gaah!" Blueestar shook her head. But.... she.... fine. Blueestar got to her paws and started trailing her daughter slowly trying to give her space.
Rosepaw stumbled to a stop. She hadn't gone far to hunt. The apprentice doubled over, gulping in big mouthfuls of air. While still breathing thickly through her mouth, she looked up and saw the familiar clearing. Her green eyes took a quick search and realizing Stingkit hadn't come out. Good, boy... She sighed, and regained her breath. "Stingkit..." She called in a whisper, "Come on out!" Out of a bush a tiny bundle of fur tumbled out quickly. He bounced in front of her, with a bright smile on his gray face.
"Momma! Momma! I stayed hidden just like you said! I was like a shadow!" He squealed with a blare of excitement. "No one would've found me!" Stingkit made playful swipes in the air as Rosepaw watched amiably.
Blueestar padded on, quickening her walk to more of a trot. She blinked in surprise as a small kit greeted her daughter. His mother? She thought in alarm.
Rosepaw switched around with the lightning swiftness of a striking snake. "Mother!" The apprentice blurted out, she couldn't see the leader but she knew she was there. Her tail twined around Stingkit's small neck defensively. "Just come out!" The tortoiseshell's fur was puffed up in fear as draw the kit near with a white paw.
Blueestar stepped out, her eyes wild with concern. Her posture wasn't defensive but a motherly tone was kicked into her voice, "Rosepaw... how is this kit.... yours?"
The Thunderclan Apprentice's eyes flickered to the kit that huddled under her belly. "Hes not really mine..." Rosepaw's whisper was stressed and anxious, "I just found him but..." Her green eyes lifted and she stared into her mother's eyes. "Please don't take him away from him! I don't want to just watch him at a distance, I want to be with him." Her tone was frantic, and her eyes pooled with distressed tears. She clutched him gently against her. "Please...Don't take him away..." Her voice had lowered but it carried the same lovingly wild tone.
Blueestar sighed a breathe of relief, her daughter wasn't running away nor did she get knocked up. () Blueestar straightened up. "You can clam mother ship of him... but you can't provide milk... so you will make sure you tend to the queen that provides milk until he needs it no longer. But your relationship would be with another queen and her kit,"
"No!" Rosepaw wailed thinly, she felt Stingkit flinch at her belly. "I can do something! I don't want him taken away from me. I love him, like he was my own!" She pressed her nose into his soft gray fur, a stream of tears streamed down the side of her face. The She-cat tried to shake them away. "I could... try. I know what borage looks like..." Rosepaw trailed off, and she murmured some inaudible words into Stingkit's fur.
"Rosepaw calm done, I am not taking him away from you. But if he doesn't get milk..." she trailed off. "Rosepaw, I will see you as his mother and you can sleep in the nursery with him if you wish,"
Rosepaw's eyes were bigger then moons and her mouth hung open like a gasping fish. "I love him more then a mother could, I will be able to give him milk." She closed her eyes and pressed her nose into his fur. Her brow bunched together in determination as tears leaked through the corners of her eyes.
Blueestar growled, "No. I am your mother so you must know how I feel. What I say goes, another queen will feed him but you will take on all the other responsibilities of a mother." She looked her daughter in the eyes, "You should be greatfull I am allowing this, i could be forcing you to give up the kit and continue your training. Which would you rather?"
The apprentice looked up defiantly, "I know the trails of the forest! I could run away and never come back!" She growled, deep in her throat. "I will be able to have milk for this kit." She nuzzled Stingkit near her legs and raised her head. "Return at dawn tomorrow and I'll prove it to you! I can be a full caretaker of a kit, I don't want to be half of it. If I can't feed him, then I'll go with you and even return to my training... If I'm going to be half...I'll be nothing..."
