Bramblefire's essence hung in the time between the land of Starclan and the land of life. Everything was black as her spirit writhed as the last pains of death began to seep away from her old, aching bones. Her green eyes widened as a spark of pain lashed her before the livid agony melted into a honey warmth withen her.
The tabby's eyes had to narrow as a brilliant light formed in the corner of her being. It stretched, as if waking up from a long sleep. At first she didn't know what was happening to her. She could feel the vile stickiness of blood on her pelt but no pain. The light stretched toward her. The glow brushed her cheek, she expected a sting but it brought glee to her being.
She purred and she reached out to the light. Her paws carrased the open air easily. A smile was broad upon her face. The light twined itself down her body and a pressure seemed to be pulling her in. Bramblefire did nothing to fight it, nor did she realize she was dying.
The she-cat had to squint her eyes once more, as she seemed to go through a tunnel of blinding white light. She wasn't scared, and she felt like she would never know worry or grief again. Suddenly, the light began to fade like a shadow meeting day.
A glittering forest of stars opened to her. The trees and grass gave off an eerie glow, and sparkled as though a light dew coated their surfaces. But as Bramblefire stumbled away as the light faded completely the starry forest seemed to have a greenleaf warmth and her paws were no wetter then before.
The brown tabby gazed around in awe, her light green eyes glowed at the light that came from nothing. She realized where she was and she turned around to see a path of blood from where she had stood. Farther back a transparent patch of land gave her the sight of her last resting place.
Her head tilted to the side as she looked at her torn and battered body swathed in crimson blood. Hovering over her body was her devoted brother that had given a life for her. And she had died in return. "Badgerstar..."She whispered mournfully.
She shook tears from her eyes as she turned away from the gruesome scene. It reminded her of Rabbitfoot, her dead love. A jolt went through her, she was dead too! They could be together again! An embarrassed chortle went through her as she realized how silly she must sound.
Bramblefire took a moment to look around the night forest. The only problem was...she didn't know where to find him.
* * *
Rabbitfoot's head whipped upward. His eyes were wide with shock. He has dreamt his dear mate at been killed by a cougar in the forest. He shivered, though the air was comfortably warm. He had to find out in his love was now here in Starclan with him. He would finally be able to hear her lovely voice and be content with staring into her gorgeous green eyes.
The sleek Moonclan warrior rose from his heather nest. He shook a stray feather from his dark brown fur. He let his paws work the way for him. His heart pounded in his chest like he had when he was still living. He hadn't felt so exhilarated for a long time.
Rabbitfoot began to skitter into a full blown run. He felt like his heart was going to burst from his chest and he was going to die anew. He had no idea where he was or where he was headed. At once he skidded to a halt. He remembered that sweet scent, he was shaking with excitement.
The tom cat leaped through the undergrowth and saw a wonderful and terrible sight. He saw his mate, she still looked old and creaky and... she was covered in blood. She had a confused look on her face as if she woke up from a dream and found it wasn't a dream.
"Bramblefire!" He called in a choked cry, he was welled up with emotion he could hardly contain it within himself. He wanted to cry his eyes out, and he wished he laugh with her again. "I've missed you so!"
Bramblefire whirled around, her eyes met his. She saw he still had a pale blind eye from his life. But that didn't matter to her. She was here with him and they could be together forever more. "Oh, Rabbitfoot!" She bounded toward him and pressed her nose to his.
Then, something odd happened. Both of them had gone rigid. A strange sensation was tingling through their bodies. The fur on their necks prickled uncomfortably. The blood on her pelt dried rapidly and it began to vanish. Both their pelt began to grow sleek once more. Bramblefire's old body filled out and lean muscles replaced delicate bones.
Rabbitfout had been young when he had died but his fur was still ragged as he had been with he had died. It smoothed out and his blind eye slowly regained its original amber color and sight was returned to him. He felt a new strength in himself. He unclenched his teeth and looked at Bramblefire.
She looked at beautiful and young as the first time he had seen her on the moor with her powerful father. She had had Moonclan blood even then, and he had loved her at first sight. He felt like he was reliving the wonderful moment again. "Bramblefire."He purred, "You look beautiful."
Bramblefire green eyes looked him over, he had looked like a mat of fur and now he was sleek and almost shining in the starlight. "You are as handsome as when I saw you on the moor that first day." She pressed herself against him, and she never wanted to leave his side. Happy tears leaked from the corners of her eyes.
"Don't cry, my dear." Rabbitfoot breathed in her ear, "We will be together forever."
