Savvy sauntered on the shifting sands of a dune. The gritty substance clung to his ragged gray tabby pelt like honey to a bees behind. Every time he shook a cloud of sand thick enough to choke a horse gathered in the air causing him to sneeze repeatedly. He could still hear the crash of waves in the distance and he longed for the fresh scent of the salty water and the feel of its cool lapping on his wary paws. His pierced ear flicked in dark annoyance, he had given an eye for that crew and now that he was crippled with a single eye, the other covered by a worn out eye patch. The sea cat turned his face away and continued his trudge.
Angel peered out of the bushes with bright sapphire eyes, watching Savvy as he padded along. "Target locked," he whispered to himself, shuffling on his paws before leaping out at Savvy with a loud, "RRRRRRRAWR, EVIL DOER!"
The tabby leaped back with a disgruntled expression that showed his indifference to the white tom cat. In reflex his claws sliced into the shifting sand waiting for the right chance to sink them into a cats soft flesh and to hear it tear to deliciously. But seeing the meager excuse for a cat just in front of him it was clear he wouldn't even need his claws to beat off this one. For an annoyed moment he wish he had his dagger that he could hold in his mouth. But he put it in the back of his mind since he was exiled from his old ship, the Ratweed. Instead, he puffed out his matted pelt to and squared his shoulders.
Angel jumped back and waggled his butt in the air, obviously not frightened by Savvy's intimidating appearance. "Aaaaaarg! E-veel doer!" he growled playfully, swatting at him. "Prepare to diiiiiiieee~!"
The pirate blinked in confusion() before stepping around to odd white cat. He shook his head in wonder of such a stupid feline, the torn tails of his red bandanna tapped against his ear. "Ehh, wut're we doin' here, laddie." Savvy grunted in a thickly accented voice, "Yew don' suppose I caun't hurt, ye."
Angel paused, then cocked his head and peered at the odd stranger in front of him. "You talk funny," he commented. "You talk like a pirate~" He gave another play bow and swatted at the pirate again, wagging his fluffy tail. "Aaarg! Where's yer parrot, Cap'n Crunch?"
Savvy's ears flattened, appalled. Was this cat mentally insane? Or there they insanely brave to say the least. Confronting a cross pirate trudging up a frustrating hill of sand. His blaxk claws curled out again in pure anger and resentment of the youth before him. Why couldn't they leave an exiled pirate along, but he had mercy in his heart for the stupid creature. "Aye, I be a pirate from me tail tip to teh ends of me whiskers!" The tom cat clarified, "But who de ye mean bye Cap'n Crunch?" His pierced ear twitched again.
Angel blinked one, then twice. "You're a REAL pirate?" he gasped with wide eyes, plonking down in an upright sitting position and leaning forward as though expecting a story. "Like with a pirate ship and a pirate crew and hunting for treasure in the endless seas~?"
The gray tabby rolled his single amber eye, "Yew wouldn't unnerstand the meanings off anything, I told ye with a mind liek that in yer noggin'!" He stood up again, once more put off by the appearance of the white cat. The cat ground his paws into the dune and stepped forward in his quest to get over it by sundown, a nosy cat wouldn't help in this.
Angel tilted his head after Savvy. "Are you trying to INSULT me?" he asked in an almost disgusted tone, obviously understanding very little of his pirate slang (if you could call it that?). He stood up and arched his back in a stretch before scurrying after him.
The tom cat cuffed the younger tom's ears. "Why do ye follow me, laddie! Stop bein' such a whimperin' maid!" Savvy snorted rudely before trotting a little bit ahead spraying sand behind him in a musky cloud of grit. At first, as his nabbed onto a the roots of a rare patch of dune grass he tried to ignore the cat behind him. But at the sound of his struggling he realized the cat was not accustomed to dune walking.
Angel pouted but didn't stop following. "But you're fuuuun! In a weird way," he mewed happily, prancing along. He didn't look where he was going and tripped over the root Savvy stumbled over as well, toppling into the pirate with a loud "Oof!"
"OH! Yew blubbering oak! What were yew thinkin'!? Trippin' over yer paws leik a newborn kit!" Savvy exploded at the cat as he regained his feet. He shook his head violently, sand trickling out of his ears and bandanna. The pirate's cat was thoroughly clogged with sand as he tried to shake it out with no avail. "Go away! Yer no use to a sea farin' cat like me self."
Angel blinked again, his eyes just as bright and curious as before and obviously not offended at anything Savvy said. "So how come you're over hear and not going out hunting treasure?" he asked eagerly, sitting up and wagging his tail back and forth.
"Cause I was banished from me old ship by me good for nuthin' crew!" Savvy scoffed and kicked sand behind him into the white cat's face. "What's yew name at the other end of this chatter? Oi can't speak wif' someone who is unknown!"
"Come a--who--WHAT are you SAYING?" Angel asked incredulously, ducking to avoid the cloud of sand in his face. "If you're asking who I am, then SPIT IT OUT, MAN. I'm Angel." He held out his paw to shake. "Who're you?"
"Savvy to you laddie! Not en odd name fer a pirate!" The gray tabby chortled in amusement and flicked a look over his shoulder with his good eye. "Now wut are yew doin' on this 'ere seashore?" Inwardly, the gray tabby sighed as he reached the crest of the great dune. He had been trekking all day through the heavy, uncomfortable sand. A beam of sun shone over the hill top and he stood proudly at it, gazing at the easy descent he would have to finish up.
